Our Methodology INTRODUCTION The Microsoft Solution Framework (MSF) is the base of Fire Lake Solutions' project methodology. The MSF is a disciplined but customizable approach that allows us to tailor this methodology to fit the client and project while following the principals outlined in the framework. We utilize this standard because it allows us to ensure that all elements of the project such as people, processes, and tools can be effectively managed through the project life-cycle. This allows us to provide high quality products within the designated timeframes. METHODOLOGY PHASES 1)Envisioning: The envisioning phase acts as an early planning phase that will define the project's goals and constraints. Also during this phase the customer is presented with a clear idea of what the scope of the project is. During the envisioning phase, basic business requirements are identified and analyzed and a high-level risk assessment is performed. The planning phase further refines the requirements and the risk assessment. The vision/scope document is utilized during the envisioning phase to allow the customer and the project team to come to agreement on the scope and direction of the project. This allows the customer to help define what must be included and get a high level idea of what the project's timeframe is. Envisioning Deliverables:
2) Planning: We believe that having the most accurate picture of the current state of applications your business has and the future state that your business needs is the most important part of any project. This means that we place significant focus on having all of the requirements clearly defined. We must work to understand the flow of information in your business so that we can understand how to create the most efficient solutions for your business. The planning phase is where the bulk of analysis and design are completed. In order to provide the most accurate information we place significant focus on interviewing the SME resources and documenting the knowledge that they provide us. This knowledge will provide us with most of the information required for the functional specification. Once the business requirements portion of the functional specification has come together, the technical resources will begin working on the design of the system. The design specifications section of the functional specification will be created based on your unique business and business needs. Planning Deliverables:
3) Development: During the development phase the team builds the necessary components that make up the solution. Some of the development work will carry over into the stabilizing phase due to resolve issues discovered during testing. The scope complete milestone is the final piece of the development phase and indicates that the code is ready for testing and stabilization during stabilizing phase. This milestone also provides a point for review by the customer and project stakeholders to verify that the solution meets the need and to identify remaining issues before the testing of the product begins. Development Deliverables:
4) Stabilizing: Stabilizing phase is designed to allow for testing on the completed components. This testing should take place in an environment that mimics the production environment that the components will be released in to. During this time the project team will work on prioritizing and resolving the bugs that occur in preparation for solution release. It is common for bugs to be located during the stabilizing phase. During early phase the new bugs may even occur faster than the team can fix them. Although every attempt is made to minimize bugs the quantity can not be predicted. This is why the stabilizing phase is utilized. Typically, each fix and release causes the component to become more and more stable. Once the testing group determines that the component is stable enough to become a release candidate it is deployed to a pilot group. At the point that it is determined to be stable enough to go to the production environment, we reach the milestone called release readiness. At this point, the component is reviewed and approved which indicates the component is ready for production. Stabilizing Deliverables:
5) Deploying: The deployment phase is the phase of the project where the project team works with the operations team to bring up the new solution in the production environment. Once the solution has been stabilized in production the project team works with the operations team to hand off support of the new solution. Stabilizing activities may continue during this phase while components are transferred from the test environment to the production environment.
Once the deployment of the component is complete, the project team will complete a customer survey and a project review. At this point the project is at the deployment complete phase. The customer then will need to sign off that the project team has met the objectives in order for the project to be closed and the solution to be considered in production. Deploying Deliverables:
